GENERAL RULES
You can participate as a competitor (Trail), a walker (Walktrail), or a volunteer. The races and hikes are semi-self-sufficient in water and food. The routes are at least 90% unpaved, with very steep gradients and difficult terrain. Participation is not recommended for those who are not adequately trained. Those who register understand that, due to the nature of the routes, there is a risk of serious injury, and that it may take a long time for emergency services to arrive. Refreshment stations will be stocked with food and drinking water. Plastic cups will not be available at the refreshment stations; for drinking, you must bring your own cup or other suitable container. Drinking directly from the organizer’s bottles or bins is not permitted. Athletes are required to dispose of waste in the designated bins provided by the organizers. For your own safety, you are required to stay on the route. Any competitor who strays from the marked trails is no longer under the responsibility of the organizers. The races will take place in all weather conditions that do not seriously jeopardize the safety of participants. The schedule may be subject to changes based on contingent circumstances, which will be communicated at the briefing.
Competitors are required to provide assistance to participants in difficulty. The race bib must be worn on the chest or stomach and must be fully visible at all times throughout the race. It must therefore be worn over all clothing and under no circumstances attached to the pack, back, or leg. Sponsors must not be modified or hidden. It is forbidden to be accompanied on the race course by a person who is not duly registered. For safety reasons, the use of headphones for listening to iPods or similar devices is not permitted. The organizers reserve the right to impose mandatory equipment at stages where necessary. A time limit will be set for each race, starting from the official start. Athletes who finish the race after this time limit, even if they are included in the rankings, will only be awarded 0.5 points and will not be eligible for the stage awards ceremony.
Anyone who believes they will be unable to complete the race within the time limit may request an early start, where applicable.
Since the early start is an option designed to favor slower athletes, its use by faster athletes who don’t really need it is considered unfair to other athletes of equal caliber and, moreover, complicates the organizers’ work. Therefore, to discourage those who misuse it, early starters are not permitted to cross the finish line before the overall winner (if male) or the overall winner (if female). Athletes who choose to start early and cross the finish line before the overall winner (male or female) will be awarded a time equal to that of the first runner-up + a time equal to the lead time + 15 minutes.
On sections where the route crosses ordinary roads, which will not be closed to vehicular traffic, competitors are required to comply with the Highway Code. If they abandon the race along the route, they are required to notify the organization of their abandonment by registering as having withdrawn at the nearest checkpoint; the organization will be responsible for their return from the checkpoint to the finish line. The time required to accompany retired athletes to the finish line depends on the availability of transportation at the time and may take several dozen minutes. Each competitor expressly waives the right to use their image rights during the races, and waives any recourse against the organization and its authorized partners for the use of their image. During the event, it is forbidden to express political, religious, or social issues unless otherwise agreed with the organizers. Each participant will be given a bib to use for all stages. If lost, each additional bib will cost €1.00. The winner must meet the last-place finisher at the finish line. Attendance at the pre-race briefing is mandatory.
A commission will be established for each race to resolve any disputes regarding violations and related penalties.
The commission will be composed of:
- The Ecotrailsicilia manager, Aldo Siragusa;
- the race judge, Giuseppe D’Ambra;
- a manager of the participating companies
In the event of the absence of one of these figures, replacements will be designated from among the local organizers of the various events. The composition of the Commission will be announced at the pre-race briefing.
The organizers will apply the following penalties for those who do not comply with the rules:
- Drinking directly from the organizers’ bottles or bins: 10 minutes.
- Poorly placed or clipped bib: 10 minutes.
- Use of headphones for listening to an iPod or similar device: 15 minutes.
- Having an unregistered person accompany you on the course: 40 minutes.
- Abandoning the race without notifying the organizers: 1 hour (the penalty will be applied to the next stage).
- Involuntary cutting: – if quantifiable with certainty: 20 minutes/km or fraction of a km – if not quantifiable: PLACEMENT AT THE END OF THE RANKING.
- Involuntary cutting: DISQUALIFICATION.
- Littering outside the bins: DISQUALIFICATION.
- Failure to assist participants in difficulty: DISQUALIFICATION.
- Disrespect for race personnel: 1 HOUR.
- Political, religious, or socially motivated complaints: DISQUALIFICATION.
- Lack of mandatory equipment: at the discretion of the Committee.
Any aggravating circumstances may increase penalties. Any complaints must be submitted in writing to the organizing secretariat within 30 minutes of the posting of the ranking in the finish area, along with a €20.00 deposit, which will be refunded only if the complaint is upheld.

SCORING FOR THE STAGE RANKING
TRAIL: In each race, 30 points will be awarded to the first-place finisher, 29 to the second-place finisher, and so on, until 1 point is awarded to the thirtieth and subsequent finishers. This score will then be multiplied by three coefficients:
The first, referring to the distance covered, is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of kilometers run by the athlete in that race. For example, if the athlete ran 18 km, the coefficient will be 1.18;
The second, referring to participation, is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of athletes in the category who finished in that race. For example, if the athlete is MM35 and 15 athletes finished MM35, the coefficient will be 1.15. If two races of different distances are held within the same race, the number of athletes in the category who finished in that race will be equal to the sum of the finishers in both races.
The third, referring to altimetry, is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the positive elevation gain expressed in hectometers (hundreds of meters). For example, if the positive elevation gain is 1200 m, the coefficient will be 1.12.
In stage races, priority will be given to those who have completed more stages.
WALKTRAIL: For each stage, points will be awarded for each kilometer traveled.
VOLUNTEERS: A score of 20 points will be awarded for the first stage in which participants participate, and 10 points for each subsequent stage. The Trail della Luna and the Egadi Running Cruise (if participants participate in at least two stages), and stages of 30 km or longer, will be awarded 15 points.
CLUBS: Each club will be awarded a score equal to the sum of the points of all participants (Trail + Walktrail + Volunteers).
Athletes who withdraw or those who exceed the time limit will be awarded a score of 0.5.
RANKING AT THE END OF ALL RACES
TRAIL: The final ranking will be drawn by adding up to a maximum of the scores from all the events in which the athlete participated.
Athletes who do not participate in at least five events will not be eligible for the final awards ceremony.
Additional points earned as a walktrailer or volunteer may be added to the five minimum required scores.
In the event of a tie, the athlete with the best individual placing will be favored. If the final score is still tied, the athlete who participated in more events will be favored. In the event of a further tie, a draw will be held.
WALKTRAIL: The final ranking will be drawn by adding the number of kilometers at the end of all 2026 stages. In the event of a tie, the athlete who participated in more events will be favored. If the final score is still tied, the athlete who participated in more events will be favored.
Athletes who do not participate in at least five events will not be eligible for the final awards ceremony.
Additional points earned as a volunteer may be added to the 5 minimum required scores.
VOLUNTEERS: The final ranking will be drawn up by adding the points earned at the end of all 2026 stages.
Anyone who does not participate in at least 4 races will not be eligible for the final awards ceremony.
CLUBS: For the purposes of the final ranking, 30 points will be awarded to the first-place team in each stage, 29 to the second-place team, and so on, until 1 point is awarded to the thirtieth and subsequent teams. This score will then be multiplied by three coefficients:
The first refers to the total distance of the stage’s races, equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of kilometers run in that race. For example, if the race is 18 km, the coefficient will be 1.18;
The second refers to participation, equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of teams classified in that race. For example, if 35 teams are classified, the coefficient will be 1.35;
the third refers to the total elevation gain of the stage’s races, equal to 1.xx; where xx is the elevation gain expressed in hectometers (hundreds of meters). For example, if the elevation gain is 1200 m, the coefficient will be 1.12. The team with the highest score will win.
OVERALL POINTS CLASSIFICATION (GREEN JERSEY): For each stage, a general men’s and women’s classification will be drawn up, awarding 10 points to the first, 7 to the second, 5 to the third, 3 to the fourth, 2 to the fifth, and 1 to the sixth. If two races of different distances are held within the same race, for the purposes of the points classification, the shorter race will be awarded 5 points to the first, 3 to the second, and 2 to the third.
In the event of a tie, the athlete with the highest score in a single race will advance in the rankings; in the event of a further tie, the second-highest score will be considered, and so on. In the event of a further tie, the athlete with the most kilometers will advance.
RACE PACK (for participation)
Each trail and walktrail participant, and volunteer, will receive a free race pack (within the limits set by the regulations). The race pack is a gift from the organization. Its value is in no way related to the registration fee, which refers to services strictly related to the event. The race pack will be delivered only to the participant, if present at the stage.

A) Individual Stage Awards

The organizers reserve the right to make changes to the dates and races on the calendar.
Any changes to the program will be communicated via the official website www.ecotrailsicilia.it and the Ecotrailsicilia Facebook page.
