GENERAL RULES
It is possible to participate in Ecotrailsicilia as agonist (Trail), walker (Walktrail), or volunteer. The races and walks take place in semi-autonomy. Semi-autonomy is defined as having the capacity to be autonomous between two refreshments posts, as much on the food front as that of clothing and security, allowing for adapting to problems encountered or foreseen (bad weather, physical problems, injury…).
The routes are for at least 90% dirt roads and paths even with very high slopes and in difficult terrain. Participation is not recommended without an adequate training. Who participates, it does so with the knowledge that, due to the nature of the routes, he/she runs the risk of incurring even very serious traumas, and that it can take a long time to get any help.
Along the route, are planned refreshment stations in a variable number in relation to the length of the route. The refreshment stations will be supplied with food and water. In the refreshment areas, plastic cups will not be available, Participants will use their personal glass. Drinking directly from the organization’s bottles or bins is not permitted.
Athletes must throw the waste into the bins provided by the organization. For safety reasons, it is not allowed to leave the route. The competitor who leaves the marked paths is no longer under the responsibility of the organization. The race will take place in any weather condition that does not put the safety of the participants at serious risk. The timetable program may undergo, based on contingent situations, variations that will be communicated during the briefing.
Competitors are obliged to provide any assistance to participants in difficulty.
The race-bib must be worn on the chest or stomach and be permanently and completely visible throughout the totality of the race. It must always be placed on top of all clothing and can in no case be positioned on a leg or backpack. The name and partner’s logos must not be either modified or hidden.
It is forbidden to be accompanied on the course by a person who is not properly registered. For safety reasons the use of headphones for listening to i-pods or similar devices is not permitted. The organization reserves the right to impose mandatory equipment. For each race will be set a maximum time which will run from the official start. Athletes who will finish the race beyond this limit, even if they will be included in the ranking, will have attributed only 0.5 points and will not take part in awarding ceremony.
Those who believe that they are unable to complete the race within the maximum time can request, where applicable, early departure.
Since the early departure is an option created to favor slow athletes, the use of it by faster athletes who have no real need of it, is to be considered unfair to other athletes of equal value and, moreover, complicates the work of the organizers. To discourage therefore those who make improper use of them, it is not allowed to those who start early, to cross the finish line before the winner (man/woman). Athletes who choose to start early and will cross the finish line before the winner (man/woman), will receive a time equal to that achieved by the first + a time equal to the advance + 15 ’.
In the sections where the route crosses the road, which will not be closed to vehicular traffic, competitors are required to respect the traffic regulations.

SCORES FOR THE RANKING OF EACH STAGE
Trail: in each race 30 points will be awarded to the first classified, 29 to the second and so on up to assigning 1 point to the thirtieth and following. This score will then be multiplied by three coefficients:
the first, referred to the distance, is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of kilometers run by the athlete in that race. Eg: if the athlete run 18 km, the coefficient will be 1.18;
the second, referred to the participation, is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of athletes arrived in that category. Eg: if the athlete is MM35 and the MM35 athletes arrived are 15, the coefficient will be 1.15. In the event that within the same stage two races are run on different distances, the figure referring to the number of category athletes arrived in that race, will be equal to the sum of the arrivals in both races;
the third, referred to altimetry, is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the positive height difference expressed in hectometres (hundreds of meters). Eg: if the positive height difference is 1200 m, the coefficient will be 1.12.
Walktrail: will be awarded as many points as are the km covered.
Volunteers: a score of 20 points will be awarded to the first stage in which you will participate and 10 points for each subsequent stage. The Trail della Luna (if you are present in both days) and the 30 km stages and beyond will give 15 points.
Clubs: each club will receive a score equal to the sum of the points of all participants (Trail + Walktrail + Volunteers)
The withdrawn athletes and those out of the maximum time allowance will receive a score of 0.5.
CLASSIFICATION AT THE END OF ALL STAGES
Trail: the final ranking will be drawn up by summing up a maximum of the best 8 scores on all the stages in which the athlete took part. Those who do not take part in at least 6 races will not be included in the final prize-giving.
The athletes can add, to the 6 minimum scores required, also additional scores acquired as walktrailer or volunteer.
In case of a tie in the final score the athlete who took part in more races will be favored. In case of further tie the athlete who has achieved the best individual placement will be favored. In case of further tie, a tie will be held.
Walktrail: the final classification will be drawn up by summing up the number of kilometers at the end of all the stages of 2022. In case of a tie in the final score who took part in more stages will be favored. In case of further tie, the oldest walker will be favored.
Those who will not take part in at least 6 walks will not be included in the final prize-giving.
Additional scores obtained as a volunteer can be added to the 6 minimum scores required.
Volunteers: the final ranking will be drawn up summing up the number of points earned at the end of all the stages of 2022. Those who will not take part in at least 4 stages will not be included in the final prize-giving.
Clubs: for the purposes of the final ranking, 30 points will be awarded in each stage to the first club, 29 to the second and so on up to assigning 1 point to the thirtieth and subsequent. This score will then be multiplied by three coefficients:
- the first referred to the distance traveled is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of kilometers traveled in that stage. Eg: if the distance is 18 km, the coefficient will be 1.18;
- the second referred to the participation is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the number of clubs classified in that race. Eg: if the clubs classified are 35, the coefficient will be 1.35;
- the third referred to the altimetry is equal to 1.xx; where xx is the positive height difference expressed in hectometres (hundreds of meters). Eg: if the positive height difference is 1200 m, the coefficient will be 1.12. The team with the highest score will be the winner.
ABSOLUTE RANKING
For each stage a general classification for men and women will be drawn up, which will assign 10 points to the first, 7 to the second, 5 to the third, 3 to the fourth, 2 to the fifth and 1 to the sixth. In the event that within the same stage are run two races on different distances, for the purposes of the points classification, for the shorter race, will be awarded 5 points to the first, 3 to the second and 2 to the third. In the event of a tie, the athlete who has achieved the highest score in a single race will be the winner; in case of further tie, the second highest score will be taken into consideration and so on. In case of further tie, the athlete who has run the most kilometers will be the leader.
